Ford's Piquette Avenue Plant
back

This was the first factory to build the Ford Model T. It produced the cars from October
1908 to December 1909. In 1910, production moved to the expansive Highland Park Assembly Plant in Michigan. The
initial price of the Model T was $850.
As Ford's production process improved, the price of the Model
T came down. A 4-seat touring machine came down to $550 in 1913
and $440 in 1915. In 1914, Ford cut the worker's day on the line from
9 hours to 8 hours and they were paid at least $5 per
day. It became realistic for ordinary workers, including the men who
assembled Model T's to consider buying a Ford.
The vehicles were available in several body styles. They
included 2 and 3
Passenger Roadsters, a 2-person Coupe, an open 5-Passenger Touring
Car and the most elegant 6-Passenger Town Car. There were also commercial
vehicles including pick-up trucks, delivery vans and a one-ton truck
chassis. They were equipped to be anything from campers to fire
trucks.
